Teesside

Teesside is in the North/East of England. It is an area now more familiarly known as the Tees Valley that stretches from the salmon rich reaches of the upper Tees to the coastal beauty and character laden sea ports. The maritime history and industrial heritage of the area are very much inevidence throughout this area.

For the visitor, Teesside offers the opportunity for a country ramble over an endless expanse of moorland, the thrill of sandy beaches and towering cliffs as well as the pleasure of a successful day’s shopping and fine dining at a chic urban restaurant. From quaint fishing ports, beautiful countryside and cosmopolitan city life, this area has it all. To best know the character of the place, explore the smugglers haunts and landmarks of famous travelers.

A taste of the salty past can be had at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. This award winning museum is situated in the scenic Stewart Park, Marton. It explores the life and times of Captain James Cook and his voyages of discovery. Audio-visual presentations and exciting interactive displays give an insight into his three great voyages of discovery. Alternatively, visit the darker side of the sea at the Saltburn Smugglers Heritage Centre. Here you can re-live the excitement and danger of those blood thirsty nights with the sights, sounds and smells of the past. Set in authentic fishermen’s cottages for an even more authentic experience.
